I've been stung twice in the past couple weeks by stuff (hornets I think, but I dunno), my dog was stung, my father in law has been stung twice, their dog was stung, and my mother in law was chased by some stinging stuff but got away (she was tripped by her dog during the run and hurt her ankle though).

This is at two separate houses, who haven't had this issue before.
has it been hot & dry? those conditions favor wasps. bees really only ever sting if you accidentally hit them or agitate them somehow.
