Bikes: A mixed-breed beater util/commute rigid hybrid I frankensteined out of assorted resqued components, called "Streetdancer". Ugly as sin, yet beautiful in function.

Ugly frankenbike porn! WARNING: Extreme DIY!

Here's some new shots of my home built commuter. I took these at my dad's house the other day.

It's an 18-spd sort-of hybrid with MTB gearing on MTB rear hub, roadie front hub, and alloy rims. Indexed rear with gripshifter, friction front with old thumbshifter. Canti brake adaptor home made by cutting off the U with canti bosses from the fork of a wrecked x-mart special. The front v-brake broke, so I put on a U-brake for the time being. Long armed caliper on the rear. Koolstop brake pads, of course.
Geeklights are a pair of modified flashlights with 20 watt (total) MR halogens, powered by NIMH AA packs. The green things on the valve stems are tireflies LED blinkies.
It's hard to tell from these shots, but the cheap rack has been modified and reinforced to add struts made from alloy bar stock. The panniers are actually denim and nylon backpacks I found on sale, attached to the rack, stays and struts with lots of heavy duty zipties. Reflectors and reflective tape mounted on the bags, and I'm thinking of a way to attach blinkies securely.
Origionally much too short kickstand was modified with alum tube stock to extend it.
The ride on this stiff old cro-mo frame can get harsh on just slightly rough streets, so I put an oldschool springloaded saddle on it. A bit wide for my rear, but it sure beats a bruised tookus.
