Since you are just getting back into cycling, I assume you will be riding popular MTB trails, dirt roads, etc. For this you should be prepared to fix a flat (spare tube, tire levers, patch kit for the second flat, tire levers, and pump), make minor adjustments (multitool), and stop bleeding (simple emergency medical kit). A cell phone can be useful - a riding buddy even more so.
