+1 While I'm relatively new to the sport, I started off by stripping a bike to its frame and building it up from there. Youtube was my best resource for this ... along with this forum. You will need some tools, for sure. But its cheaper than having someone else work on your bike. I like the satisfaction of knowing I did it myself as well as the peace of mind that I know how to fix it if it breaks.
