I read your post when you first started it and have read through a couple more times as comments have been made. I am not one to recommend what I have just because I have it, but in this case I think it is what you are looking for. I can guarantee you that the Lynskey Backroad is more than stiff enough in an XL. Lively is somewhat more subjective. I don't consider mine lively in the sense that my Tarmac was, I do however consider it responsive. Pleasantly so. They go on sale for close to $1000 from time to time. I got mine for $899.
