After much thought, mostly regarding safety, I have decided to go "cold turkey" and stop riding.
It had to happen at some point and I did not want to wait for a serious crash to be the deciding event.
And at the same age, I am about to embark bicycle touring. The Mrs. believes I am in denial. I believe one is as young as one feels.
