I had this happen to me last month on a bike pub crawl. I'd put my weight forward to skid and tear it open further...and further. Spent the next five hours with a hole from my pocket to knee, going from bar to bar with my boxers showing.
This was on an old Rolls saddle from the 80s.
gotta be pretty common.
