Your logic is flawed. Me asking here doesn't weaken my mechanical skills--I already know how to swap these parts, tune, etc. What I lack is compatibility info, which you obviously don't have. Yes, I could buy a new cable, lube it up, install the shifter to "test it", possibly find it doesn't work, take it all off if it doesn't, wipe off the lube, coil up the unneeded cable, buy a new XT shifter that comes with a cable (which means I went to my LBS and bought the other cable for no reason), install it and be happy. On an aside, I knew I could count on you showing up and posting one of your typical snarky comments. Yes, we could go back and forth here but I will stop here. I have a bike to fix.
You can just use the cable without cutting and don't even need to attach to frame to try out.
Even if an expert here knows, there is a chance it is the opposite or some misunderstanding. So trying is the best way if you already have the parts.
The situation would be different if you had to order the part to try.
