Along with the empty water bottles was "ladies of the afternoon". I could not believe how many. Never seen anything like it.
When I was touring in Spain there was a lot of roadside litter in several places, including relatively rural areas.
As for the latter, when I was on a supported tour in Italy we saw some "ladies" on the day we rode to the Bianchi factory to watch a Giro stage victory. They were at a highway junction and seemed to be doing a decent business.
