Fellow owner of a grey splatter Karakoram here. Bought it new in 1989. IMO, that generation Karakoram is a better townie bike now than it was a mountain bike then. Always slightly heavy and the clearances barely cleared a Panaracer Smoke 2.0. I raced it back in the day and constantly dealt with mud build up in the stays. Now though, it comparatively has more of a road feel that can easily service a 40 mile gravel ride.
