The other potential problem with Carbonaro's "joke" is the potential for fraud. He (or one of his imitators) could have easily charged his customer for completely bogus service and never let him in on the joke. Auto mechanics, appliance service people, etc. do it all the time.
I'd have to agree with the both of you. I understand what he's trying to go for here but I find it painful to watch. I remember when I first heard about him and watched one of his videos; I think I got about 30 seconds into it and turned if off.
