NC Outer Banks tour (full South to North)

I am considering a NC Outer Banks self supported tour. From Cedar Island or thereabouts, a ferry may carry a person(s) and bike(s) to Ocracoke Island. But there is another Outer Banks island going south to Cape Lookout, via a couple different ferry services. It appears to be quite remote with no services whatsoever, just the kind of touring mileage I prefer. Can anyone offer information about possible tourist services (motels and restaurants)? Or anything else about the road to Cape Lookout? I'm good for most pointless no-traffic rides, but my gf wants a reason. Thanks.
