Why? Carapaz has only one viable wingman in the mountains (Amador). This said, while teammates matter, he's not entirely dependent on wheel-sucking to do well. Dan has none, plus has historically shown weakness in races that go longer than 10 days.
Dan has often suffered from injuries in Grand Tours and still continued to race but not at the same level as before the crashes. If he stays injury free in this Vuelta hopefully he can prove you wrong.
His greatest handicap in GTs is his lack of ability to TT and there's still one to come in about ten days time.
