Thanks for this advice. I did get help removing this crank from a seasoned mechanic who worked on bikes for over 30 years from the 70s into the 90s. Thankfully the threads are good. French bikes are the latest steepening gradient to my learning curve it seems. I tried to replace a nice Stronglight Competition headset on an old Browning V last night with something less sparkly and quickly learned that not all 1 inch headsets are the same diameter.
