...I'm not sure if you have much experience with Italian threading in a BB. If this were me, and I was going to do this rather than go threadless, I would just order up a new sealed unit BB spindle in the correct length and install it at this time (after the rethreading). The reasons are that the drive side on an Italian BB has an unfortunate tendency to back out under use. This tendency is much reduced with a sealed unit BB.

I'm generally of the opinion that loose spindles are, in the majority, of higher quality than most available sealed unit BB units, so try to order one of the higher quality sealed ones.
