Wide-width bottom bracket shells?

I was browsing for Campagnolo spindles, as one is apt to do, and saw this posting for a "Vintage - Campagnolo #744 - Record - Road BB Spindle - 'NOS' - 74-SS-120" spindle. It's advertised as a spindle for a wide-width bottom bracket shell and thin-walled bottom bracket cups. I know about the thin-walled cups, standard 68mm BBs and 70mm Italian BBs, but a 74mm BB had me perplexed. Am I interpreting this correctly? What are some examples of bikes/frames that might require such a wide spindle?
