I have the road bike version of that. Same color and same gold decals. I believe they were sold via Costco for a very short time in the mid 80s, which would jive with the parts on your and mine. Your's looks like a great donor for a more pedigree'd frame as it's a nice collection of period parts on a super obscure brand frame. Mine seemed to ride nice enough and had very good clearances (I tested fitted 650bx42 tires and it was fine, or 700x38).
more web searches: Rocky Cycles, the entity behind Dorado, was Incorporated in Sunnyvale, CA from 1981-1987 before sliding into obscurity. The ebay catalog shows 3 mountain bikes & a couple of kids bikes, but no road bikes were featured. Apparently the Sherpa originally sold for $261. Not bad considering the quality components.
