I may be set with a Schwinn approved model J made in Japan 14-32 that I have. I undid a snap ring and took off the inner shield that protects against chain drop on the dr side. I have a very nice 14-32 Suntour narrow 6 speed that works on there nicely with a Shimano light action long cage rd from the mid 80s. While vintage, it isn’t what I wanted on the 64 Frejus.

I want to mount a Suntour V-GT Deluxe on this, and the one I have is set up for the hanger that is integral with the rd for bikes without a mount. Did they come any other way? Problem is mounting this rd to the integral hanger on the bike requires the jam nut mounting to be inboard of the dropout limiting the freewheel width so as to not interfere with the chain. I think this Schwinn 5 speed may work. I assume that the “catch ring” held on by a snap ring that I removed doesn’t hold the sprockets on.

Gearing will be my 144bcd Superbe 42-46 half step with this rear setup. Stock was the 47-50 front and a 14-22 rear. Ouch, I couldn’t do that gearing 40 years ago.
