bicycle anatomy 102

"Parts is parts" as they used to say, but I need to find out what the heck everyone else calls them. I was surprised to learn that the rotating shaft that the pedals rotate around is called the bottom bracket (I could maybe see calling the race a bracket, but the shaft? What kind of engineer named that?), after confusing the guy at the LBS by calling it the crankshaft. And while he did seem kind of amused by my calling the crankarms conny rods, I'd rather learn the lingo that find out how little else of my internal combustion anatomy transfers to bicycling. I looked here on the site for more information, but haven't found any yet. But I did finally find out just what OCP stands for! Is there a site for the nomenclature? I doubt I'm the only one looking for this information?
