3 things:
1) Congrats on your 5 year run of good luck.
2) To a large part, flats are randomly caused. Maybe that just happened to be the day you found a piece of glass, wire, sharp rock, or other tire hazard.
3) Lightweight tires are designed for performance, not toughness. If you want to ride through trash and not flat, Zipp probably isn't the brand you need to consider. If you want to ride fast, they're a fine brand.
This is not true. Of course there is an element of chance, but to a very large degree the amount of flats you will suffer, over time, is determined by the tyres you run.
