Flamboyant Paint

In the UK and to a lesser degree in France that was called Flamboyant paint... A dyed transparent lacquer was applied on top of a usually gold, silver or white base coat. It can be difficult applying the paint in a uniform thickness so it all looks the same color.

A lot of French and British bikes came with that kind of paint from the 60's into the early 80's.

In the US it was called "Candy Apple" as in Candy Apple Red.... Very popular on hot rods and custom cars in the 1950's and 60's
