Agree with Andy. The design of that stay, with the contact point shrunk down, seems to be a triumph of aesthetics and marketing over good engineering practices. By the time you've ground the paint off, welded the break and gusset, and cleaned it up and painted it you probably can find a new (used), better frame for cheaper. Sorry...
