Even the best technology is subject to failure, and until the electronics are 100% reliable (they never will be, IMHO) the 'self driving car' cannot exist. Besides, humans are still responsible for maintaining their vehicles, and believe me, I've seen some cars being driven on the road that were poorly, if ever, maintained.

Frankly I doubt the technology will ever be 100% perfect, but can we accept a significant reduction in human deaths on the roadways?
