+1 on OIL for the internals
Gear hubs use "splash lubrication" and so depend on a liquid lube that can "splash" similar to how front loading washing machines work. As parts move within they pick up oil and spread it around.
You need a small amount (thinks multiple drops vs. ounces). If you add too much oil, it will weep out through the bearings and get all over the place.
