Can't help but notice both your Miyata's are prior to their 'splined' tubing (gimmick
). My favorite Miyata's are also the ones from the early 80s that do NOT have the splined tubing which to me, made for a heavy, harsh ride.
my first Miyata (and last new bike I bought) was a 89 1400 with splined triple butted....it rode really well,.
the 84 is double butted and the 85 is triple butted
