graupel - yep, around here in January it comes down a lot like a mixture of sleet and heavy wet snow, generally because it's too dry to precipitate and it's too warm to snow. Or replace "Slush" with another S word and you've got a winter storm that hits the fan ;0) LOL - especially when it freezes over night. Try biking in them! - Not fun!

The nearby Route 38 town of Winchester had some cold nights over the holidays. The body of water called Winter Pond froze over to around 2 inches of ice. The next morning some kids went to play ice hockey and someone fell through the ice and died Channel 5 sent a reporter out to cover it. I biked past and noticed that the next day, kids were again out there playing on the ice. I couldn't believe my two eyes.
