Hey - I'm the guy on fixed gear gallery with the "25 lb" fixie - except it weighed 22 pounds as a fixie.

Hi guys - Bill Milam here. Like many of you - I ground off all the unused metal bits on the frame - including the kickstand mount (lots of work).

But a couple of things that helped lower my bike weight were - custom built fork, super light Roox seatpost, extra light weight handlebars, and the regular alloy bits. The only thing used from the original bike was the two frame pieces and the seatpost clamp.

I used the word "weighed" in past tense since it has now morphed into my city folder with a Sturmey Archer alloy ELITE 5-speed rear hub with drum brake and now sports Nitto B-115 bars and dual brake levers. The Brooks Pro saddle has been also switched out for a Honey Brooks Flier. Fenders are added as conditons warrant.

I still have a small wheel folding (err - take apart) fixed gear bike - an old Sears ToteCycle - that actaully has better geometry and a more stable ride than the Raleigh Twenty. Also an early model Dawes Newpin (Kingpin folder) is on its way to my home and that one may become the "folding fixied de jour".

My Raleigh Twenty and the custom fork running 406 tires (Primo Comets 1.75") put the bottm brackete height at just under 10 inches and I ended up scraping the pedals at least once per ride eerie on a fixie. I rode this bike as a fixie for over two years and loved it. I like even better now as a multi-gear city bike.

Thanks for mentioning my Twenty Fixed gear.

... Bill Milam
