A Will County judge has acquitted an elderly Palos Heights man of traffic charges in the death of a bicyclist whom he struck with his car near Monee.
Judge Lawrence Gray on Tuesday cleared John G. Feely, 88, of charges that he failed to slow down or to use proper care to avoid the May 26 accident, Assistant State's Attorney Adam Capelli said.

Will County sheriff's police said Feely struck Janice Briese, 68, of Channahon, with the front of his 2000 Lincoln Continental as he and Briese were northbound on Harlem Avenue, about a half-mile north of Manhattan-Monee Road.

Briese was traveling with a group of bicyclists about noon when she was hit, police said.

She died at St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields about an hour later.

Feely told police he didn't see the woman until it was too late, Capelli said.

Citing no eyewitnesses to the accident, the judge acquitted Feely of both citations, Capelli said.

Defense attorney John Egan could not be reached Friday for comment.
Are judges elected in that area? If so I can see cyclists geting behind his opponent, Yes?
