I agree about the idler on the power side. here is a how-to on making one.

For about the same price as buying the parts retail, you can get a Greenspeed idler from I think the actual placement of the idlers could be tweaked, but you're on the right track there. It's not a bad idea to have a top idler, just to help prevent chain slap; but the whole double idler assembly could be moved lower.

I wondered about the boom, too. It is awfully skinny and I would expect it to deflect under heavy pedaling. You say it's just bolted on?
