Not exactly correct. The stock finish is a clear coat, it's just not a glossy finish. It's a dull satin finish and appears to have a dark dye in it. After refinishing mine, because I didn't like all the advertisements all over it and they are under the clear coat, I used a semigloss clear coat and polished it to a a near gloss. I think the reason Easton uses the finish they do is to hide the layup of the carbon sheets in the manufacturing process. They don't go to great pains to make it look pretty and just cover it up with a dull dark finish. I don't mind seeing the carbon layup and think it nice looking. My finish is actually lighter than what came stock, if you're counting grams. 270 grams refinished and cut.

Oh, and I love the forks, but afraid I don't weigh 200+ lbs either.
