I'm so glad I've found this forum - I was directed here by a link in the <http://chicago_bike.livejournal.com">Chicago Biking</a> forum on Livejournal - the discussion about the Chicago Sun-Times letter to the editor complaining about cyclists.
Anyway, I'm from Chicago (as the thread title might indicate). I live on the north side, and work downtown as a network engineer for a large bank. I bike to work about once a week, although I'm working hard to try to slowly get that up to every day - I rode yesterday, and I plan to ride tomorrow.
In addition to my "commuting", I also enjoy recreational cycling along the lakefront here in the city - as long as it's at the right times to avoid all the pedestrians down by the beach
I'm cycling for three reasons:
1) It's a helluva lot of fun
2) I actually get to and from work faster on my bike than I do on the L
3) I'm trying to lose weight before my wedding in May of next year
I also love improv, swing dancing, and my awesome Sheltie named
Scout.
