early surly cross check with reynolds vs. new cross check

Can anyone here tell me the differences between the older model cross checks and the current cross checks? I know the older model had reynolds 631 steel and is set up for a one inch threaded stem. Any other differences? I remember reading that surly switched to the 4130 cromo frames because the original frame with reynolds steel weighed the same as the 4130 but failed more often....is this true? can anyone verify this? I would think the older model would weigh less considering it is made with reynolds 631 double butted steel. Does the older version have braze-ons for rack and fenders like the newer version?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
