Oz, post over in touring, and see if anyone has suggestions for your bike. You need to find the ones that fit, and then find a supplier. I can forward gear to you, PM me about that. Most US retailers will ship to you, but you have to fax them (or email) a copy of your credit card and ID. Shipping/Customs may be a hassle that route.
About pedals, of course they're cheap. Look what you get on an expensive bike - no pedals. Why should they put a decent set on when most people will swap them out for something else. Really, why do bikes even come with grips and a seat? You should get to choose them at time of purchase.
