I understand that playing around with stuff is fun, I've made many 'inventions' of my own. But, knowing it's not going to work, and doing it, is just plain stupid.

Did you even look at the bike? The rear shock is about 2 inches long. Even IF he got it to work somehow, the most travel he could add to it would be so small, it would be pointless. Not only that, by changing the frame in such a way, you're risking frame failure.

There arn't too many of those bikes kicking around anymore. Keep it in good shape and you might get a lot of cash for it some day.
