Yes, the neat step gauge makes sizing a seat tube so much easier. But a person who can not size a bike's seat tube ID with a set of calipers should not be allow to touch such an instrument. There was a name for these folks, it is "Shoemaker". (no offense to makers of shoes intended)

note; there was never anything that would bar a shoemaker from owning a track bike.
