I just brought my bike with me to Korea on United Airlines. I don't know if this is true of all airlines but they told me bikes are considered regular luggage on international flights so there is no extra fee. I used a free cardboard box from my bikeshop which I reinforced with an extra layer of cardboard. The bike was fine except the wheels were a little out of true.
