Either of these bikes will suit your needs according to what you stated. They are both reliable, with decent equipment levels for the price.
You need to so a bike shop about being properly fitted for your bike. They can determine the proper size for the brand you choose. Just because you need one size for a Kona for example, doesnt always mean that you will need the same size for another brand.
Both of these bikes are just under the $500 mark. You should test ride both of them before you decide which bike you want.,..it is a matter of personal preference however.
