Rocky Point trail (NYC/Long Island MTBers take note)

Just thought I'd give a heads up about a great trail for the MTBers out there.

It is in eastern Long Island in a small town called Rocky Point. Permit is yours for the cost of an envelope and a few stamps. (PDF is available at: http://www.bikekinetix.com/pdf/dec_rp_permit.pdf) Get the permit. It gets you parking, a map and there are rangers who ride around and check. Also, it lets the state know people are using it and that helps gaurantee access.

Here is a map of the trail:rpbike.gif

It isn't very hilly but it is secluded and fun.

From the city you could take LIRR to Port Jefferson and ride the seven miles to the trail. (Just head east on 25-A.)

(I've mentioned a few times on BF that there is a good LBS in Rocky Point. It is just off the trail on Old/Business 25-A. (East of Rocky Point Cycles (a Harley shop) by a few hundred feet.))
