Today is 3 more hours of whatever the crap I feel like doing, so probably some sort of endurancey stuff. This caps off the 22hr hate week, and should be somewhere around 870-880tss.

I'm posting this before I ride because now I have to ride to not be full of ****. As soon as I finish this french press...

It is a very good thing I'm riding alone today, for the sake of everyone else.

2hrs from 2-4pm, better late than never, but don't really like riding past 3:30 these days due to my not having lights. 125tss tempo pace. this coming week is a recovery week following 5 weeks of doing trainerroad's sweet spot base program. kinda hoping I can change my ftp to 270 next week, but that's a bit of a stretch goal, we'll see

4.5 hours today. i think my rib might be broken or at least bruised. in the saddle efforts are fine, but anything out of the saddle hurts pretty bad, as do taking very deep breathes, sleeping on my side, etc., etc. wahh.

I've got something I can't figure out.
My threshold efforts are 40 to 50 watts down, like 280 for a 20 to 30 minute climb rested. Yet normalized power is hardly down at all. Today I did a training race, already fatigued. Biggest week in months. And average power for 80 minutes was 265 - lower than threshold. But normalized power was 300. Anyone experience such a huge drop in threshold, or such a huge difference in steady AP vs race ride NP?

1) It sounds like you need rest, I find that the first stuff to go when exhausted is top end.
2) My NP for a race can be upwards of 70W higher than my AP, so this doesn't strike me as too unusual.
3) Your e-wang meter is calibrated properly?

Fun "MTB" ride with teammates, which is to say everyone else rode their MTB and I rode my cross bike. JRA pace. Went fine, though I did have a couple goofy crashes, one of which tweaked my thumb a bit. So that's sore, but overall a good day.

Another 3hrs of base at 182w. Today was kinda hard. I might dial it back to 170-175.

3) Your e-wang meter is calibrated properly?
1) It isn't top end that's gone, it's threshold. VO2 is still as normal.
2) It's not NP vs AP in a single ride that concerns me - it's NP vs threshold. I hit ~280 currently for a hard 20-30 minute climb, suggesting at most a 280 FTP. However, I'll do a race ride, or a race like today and get 300NP for 80 minutes. I hit 7% higher NP for 80' than I can hit for 20' AP.
3) My e-wang meter is currently "set" at 290. I did a 284 watt climb after a couple weeks easy-ish, and thought maybe I just needed to get in the groove and set it at 290. It's not that big of a deal as I only loosely track TSB etc. I thought about lowering it, but NP for rides that aren't anything NP-busting-special suggest ~310 FTP. That's a pretty big gap.

Any longer racier ride leads to an NP way higher than threshold for me. Leads to my wonky TSS days where I'm getting 200 in like 2:15. Not sure if I test like a wuss, if I just go harder in the racy environment, or if I'm just all fast twitch. I can do like 340 for 20 min, but then do like 375 NP for an hour...dunno why.

sounds like it.. all you can do is not fall on it while it's healing! and generally take it easy. obviously, I guess..

np is what it is, and doesn't seem related to your ftp drop.

Been off the bike for a while, coming off of the flu (first time ever getting it and yes, I get a flu shot every year), and my body feels like I rode 500 miles last week then took a hard crash. It's amazing how sore my muscles are.

Hoping to ride on Friday when it's going to be 60 degrees.

I'll be the 1928392nd person to say take your time. I had a pretty nasty wreck in the past with a brain injury and it took much longer than I thought it would to feel totally comfortable again.

yeah i'm trying to take it as easy as I can handle, considering how relatively nice the weather is rn.

thankfully, i'm going back to my mom's house tomorrow for about a week where there is very little traffic.
