That's absolutely a big part of it. It's both physically and mentally/emotionally painful; the latter because I have to remember how to suffer this much. It'll be better within a couple weeks. Saturday's 'Lactate tolerance' workout will also hurt a lot. The main part is 4min 230w, 1min 300w, repeat for 25min.

2x20 sst last night. Higher wattage than my last 2x20 set (did these last night based on new ftp), yet my heart rate was lower in both intervals.

Works for me

I think my ftp may be down ~20w, when I did one of those zwift races yesterday I also wore the HRM, and I was at 171bpm at 240w. I've been riding sporadically over the last month for different reasons and my CTL went from 73 to 53, plus I've had difficulties with other sessions where I'm trying to hold higher power, so I don't necessarily think I was just showing a higher HR than normal. So, down goes the FTP and will work it back up again.

My TSB has been negative or at 0 since December 24th. I'm feeling a bit wrecked from that TT Saturday - tailbone soreness is more prominent, right glute needs serious foam rolling, left ankle has some tendinitis or something and now my left knee feels tweaked from favoring my left ankle as I walk around campus.

Was planning on racing this weekend, but my wife reminded me that I agreed to dog sit for a friend and I'm not allowed the required overnight to do the race 4 hours away.

tl:dr restweek and maybe for-fun coast rides this weekend.

"Why did you quit?" is right up there with "you should have thought of that before you became peasants."

Incorrect

" you should have thought of that before you became peasants" is equivalent to "why does your power have such a huge negative slope the last five minutes"

They do hurt way more when you go out too hard though.

I thought that if you didn't want to quit at some point during the test, you just weren't going hard enough.

I have thoughts of quitting almost every interval or 20 minute effort I do. This sport effing hurts!

Also had some knee pain in my right knee Tuesday morning before intervals. Stood on one foot and pulled the right one back for a light stretch for 45 seconds and the pain completely disappeared. Subtle reminder that I need to start stretching again.

Today I woke up half hour late but rode to work anyway. 2:45 cuz I was mentally a bit lazy. Didn't bring food cuz I'm almost out of my Infinit Nutrition mix. Was fine though, for a few hours zone 2ish. It's wonderfully warm and dry here this week!

moderate workout planned tomorrow:

5' VO2 max at ~115%
30' z4 at ~94%
3' VO2 at a similar range

Maybe I can make it through these ones without quitting .

As my coach says, if you can do the 12min of the FTP test, you can finish the 20. His view is that if you're going to blow up, it'll be within the first 5-8min. And once you've made 18min, you can absolutely finish the last 2...it's just going to be very mentally tough.

Last test I did, I wanted to quit pretty much every 5 seconds starting at 12min.
