Just got back from a 3 week trip to Scotland & England. There was a lot of walking, touristing, and way too much eating but not enough bikes. I did borrow my friend's commuter/cross bike and got in some beautiful rides around my hometown in Scotland, the roads were quiet and rough and there are plenty hills to climb! We also rented mountain bikes one day at one of the best parks in the world. That place was epic and if I still lived there, I'd be a mountain biker for sure...no cactus and rocks, just beautiful woodland trails and big climbs!
Arrived back to 117 degree temps in Phoenix last night

Rode outside on Saturday for the first time since I crashed in late May. My shoulder started hurting about an hour twenty in, but nothing too bad. It was nice to actually ride outside.

Sunday went a little better with even less discomfort. Still, my left forearm remains jaundiced looking.

Not well enough. Allergies last night and work this morning. Only slept 7 hours. Legs sore and quite tired today. Probably gonna take another day easy before trying VO2 intervals.

past few days have been rough.

friday: got knocked out by a pretty bad cold, called out sick from a significant work event, spent the day in bed.
saturday: still felt rough, but worked a trade show for 12 hours. lots of time on my feet, no riding.
sunday: still felt like death, throat was so scratchy. raced a crit, felt ok, but could barely breathe by the end. basically just wanted to get a workout out of it. spent the rest of the day volunteering at the race.
today: feeling almost back to 100%. off the bike again as it was another 12 hour trade show day.

return to normalcy tomorrow, thankfully.

Felt 100% better today than yesterday. No chain day, as much as someone out of shape can have one anyway. IF was .92 and it felt easy for most of it (except the 15% climb back up to the hotel, that still hurt like hell).

~18 hr burnout week, followed by a rest week, and now back at it. 90 min spin on top of my commute yesterday, sprints this morning, and lunchtime worlds crit ride today. Somehow I got sunburned from ~90 mins of AM riding + 75 mins of lunch riding. The sun is getting serious again... I usually don't bother with sunscreen for rides under 2 hours and didn't think a double day would burn me.

FTP test Thursday. Trying it on a flat crit-type loop this time. Let's see if 2 weeks of intensity + 1 week of volume = a threshold bump!

Rode 20 miles through San Jose yesterday to the SJBC training crit, won it, then rode back home.

79 miles, 280 TSS. Not bad for a weekday!

Skipped VO2 in favor of threshold this morning. 3.5 hours with:
106% for 20'
96% for 17'
103% for 10'

First effort started at threshold, and gradually picked it up over the 20 minutes. Bummed that it still took 20 minutes. Basically tied my best w/kg from a couple years ago and ended up 2 minutes slower. That happened once when I had a soft tire. This time Idk what to blame. My calcs show a 6.5mph wind could do it, but idk if it was that windy

my ctl is about at 62, which hadn't been at this level since Jan 3rd, so yay, although from Sept-Dec it was around 70, give or take, so i'd like to get back to that level (probably wouldn't be able to go much beyond that). Not that it means much other than being able to do the type of long riding I like to do. still not targeting anything competitive, so just having fun

Fun ol' group ride with some sorta fried legs from yesterday's shenanigans and work crunch time not allowing me to sleep enough. Such is life, came damn close to taking one of the area's platinum level KOMs even though I felt like day old tuna salad and also it's like really pretty around here so all in all it was a good time.

I'm on what I guess is a vacation, but more like a road trip to see family. My pops got married on Sunday so I drove up from Cackalacky to Buffalo Friday afternoon/evening, got in around 11. Took me aboot 10.5 hrs, and somehow I actually bruised my ass doing it. Like my right cheek was sore to the touch from sitting for ~11 straight hours. Weird.

Rode solo Saturday on roads I haven't been on in years, felt sooo good to be back there. Upstate NY country roads are pretty damn scenic, and the Southtowns outside Buffalo have some decent elevation in short, punchy climbs. I ended up with 56 miles, 3:20, 2600ft and some nice photos to share.

On Tuesday I made my way to Albany and did the Mohawk Hudson Summer Solstice Ride. This was with the group of people that I started riding with, and I haven't seen these folks in over a year. This ride is usually a large group for the area, maybe 50-60 people or more, all levels. It was a hammerfest from the start to get some separation in the groups, and I was able to stay with the front folks for the whole ride. That's never happened for me before, people were commenting on how well I looked and was riding, and I gotta say, it felt really nice to hear all that and to be able to ride with them. 51 miles, 2:30, 3350 ft, 240 TSS, and a whole lotta good feelings.

Plus there's always a parking lot pizza party after this ride, and hanging out there for a while was great. I really miss it here.

I'm struggling to get motivated to ride again. 3 weeks vacation with only a little riding (but in such a beautiful place) means I'm a bit out of shape and the heat really picked up here while I was gone, and I'm a bit jet lagged I suppose. So, I'm easing back into it. I also got a new dog, a rescue from a local county shelter. She is so awesome and I actually left 30 minutes late for my ride because I was snuggling with her, which meant it was even hotter :-/

Actually left on time for the morning group ride, and came upon a cyclist stranded without tube or pump. So gave him a tube and when he finished I raced off to catch the group ride. Barely made it.

Felt really weirdly easy for most of the ride but I think it was actually average (looking at data afterwards). Then last stretch I go to pull the group for a bit at 470 watts but apparently that wasn't enough and the fast guys wanted to go harder. So we got strung out for several minutes, hit the kicker before the sprint, I drifted back and hung on for dear life. 30' at 1.03 IF ow ow ow.

did 2x15 ftp intervals on zwift, definitely feeling like I can bump my FTP up, I've had it set at 244 for awhile now, but it's in the 250-255 range now (I think closer to 255 based on my HR/effort). may try to start doing more build stuff rather than mainly endurance

4x5' VO2 last night. Finally feeling good again, it went much better than last week's disaster. All intervals were within 5W, which was cool. Nowhere close to my max 5', but I wasn't going for that. Not surprisingly, CTL continues to slowly decline. Currently sitting at about 80. But that's fine because I don't feel like garbage. Looking forward to critsmas this weekend and then taking a couple weeks to reset before building for the last bit of road season and then cyclocross.

The race was hard. I made it harder by attacking a lot, and split our group of ~30 down to 7.

It's also a 36 mile crit so the TSS adds up.

On top of that I need to bump up my FTP I think..
