does anyone ever experience deep lung pain when riding hard? used to just happen to me in racing but it's been coming up more and more in training. similar to the burn from riding in the cold but I feel like it really prevents me from taking full, deep breathes. is this exercise induced asthma or am i a hypochondriac?

[not snark] don't you say this every week?[/not snark]
Asthma isn't really a deep lung pain, I'm not sure what your issue is but it doesn't sound like Asthma.

At least the last few (which has probably worked out better in the end) since I've missed the Saturday ride due to work and other obligations....getting out at 10 am when it is 110 isn't a great model for training.

Not at all. If anything it's my spider sense telling me you are about to get an overuse injury. Carry on.

Yep. I don't mean this to sound snarky but when it used to happen to me it usually meant the workout I was doing exceeded my fitness level, and it used to happen more frequently on hot days. When I was younger I was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma but I stopped taking the stuff they gave me the very first day I had it because it made me feel really loopy. I don't know if the two thing are connected, it doesn't seem to affect me anymore.

If it's the same thing I used to get from time to time, I found hopping in the shower and huffing steam did wonders.

You were talking about my past frequent injuries, not future ones...you're backtracking. its not the comment that annoyed me, it was the delivery. You tried to jump on me after two other posters did, because you thought it was safe to get some laughs at my expense....no risk, kicking someone when they're already on the ground. At least own up to it. I have a rapport with the other people, I don't know you. Carry on.

dude, if you're going to post your workouts at here (and subsequently ask for advice, critique, etc.), then people commenting on what you're doing is not "jumping on" you.

(and yes, i recognize the irony of me of all people commenting on your big hours, but I ride a lot fully knowing that it isn't the best thing for my fitness, i just like it. you seem to ride a bunch, say you spent too much time riding easy, and then wonder why you're not getting faster)

Absolutely nothing, gonna take it easy this week after four weeks of training with a power meter so far and filling my time with threshold, hills, and 1 min efforts. I'm expecting huge gains when I get back to it next week!

Except the dude wasn't criticizing what I was doing, he was making stuff up.

Across the power profile, I've probably never been stronger than I am right now. However with the numbers fudgy and gsb are tossing around, they're not going to be eye opening.

yeah, my pr was like 25s faster, 10w lower but 5-6lbs lighter. I gave up 10s on the turn-in today basically starting from a 10mph pause.

anyway, it's all good. happy with the number. OK with the time. Haven't been climbing in a long time so I haven't gotten to see my uphill power. Good that it's up as high as it's ever been.

Nice. At first glance the numbers didn't even compute. I thought maybe it was somehow TSS for 16 hours. Megawatts.

prob gonna kick down a 4 and 5 hour ride in two separate days next week... that's a lot for me!

In other news: Sierra backpacking trip in two weekends, Kearsarge Lakes basin via Onion Valley. I'm stoked, I love being in high altitude, rugged terrain. I try to do something like this once/year, and it's been about that long. On day 2, I wanna lead everyone up University Peak, which should be good for a day of class 2/3 scrambling up to 13,600'.

I found this super cool youtube that's a first person of someone leading a group to Univ. Peak by the exact same means... pretty neat:

Looking fwd to commencing base training on the bike in Oct.

418 for 4 minutes once or twice in my life. Lol.

7 more races this season, then camping intervals for a few weekends, methinks.

Obliterated a local climb two days ago. Like, put most of a minute into everyone that's ever done it. The previous record was 8:04, I did 7:08.

Then yesterday, I did it in 7:03, and kept on going after turning from the singletrack onto the FS road, to put 54s into the previous record holder. 12:42 vs. 13:34. The road was freshly graveled, so I'm guessing I can go another 10-15s faster once it gets packed in a bit. I was losing traction fairly often. Started to rain up at the top, so I kept it fast, smooth and under control on the trail back down.
