Cat3 bro is silly fast and has a strong mental game, he had absolutely no fear about cracking later in the ride. I was doing 5.2 up the Kanc following him until I decided to let him go cuz we had 130 miles left...

basically cat3bro

More impressive was that he was able to counter me when I tried attacking him around mile 160. Just motored up behind me after I burned a sprint. Dude is purely slow-twitch (And it shows, he is definitely not a sprinter). But it is cool to see someone who is really a climber vs. all the guys who think they are climbers because they are small, but can't keep pace for crap and my lard ass can catch them by just thresholding after they burn their 2-minute match. He just grinds people away by keeping a steady pace at 5.0+ W/kg without breaking a sweat and apparently he can still do that 100+ miles into a ride.

unsurprisingly, he smashed the 3 field at GMSR. going to be a rough early season for normal cat 3s next year.

Don't feel too bad, it should only take a few races before he upgrades and starts kicking all of us in the teeth

Mile 160? Is that a mile marker, or do you guys do team rides that long?

You don't do stupidly long rides as soon as the season is over?

I'm not opposed to the idea, but down here most bike racers hang up their bikes as soon as LSU's football season starts. Then they whine about how fat they get.

I put in 4 on Sat and 3 on Sun, plenty for me at this point.

I plan to peak with hours hrs/week averaging ~15 in #DeepBaseNine, with a blip or two higher than that. Here's how we're sizing up:

M: off
T: 1 hr mtb AM, 1 hr test riding potential team/race bike PM. Will hit a moderate total time in SST over both rides, but will otherwise do z1.
W: 2 hrs w 2x30' z4
Th: 1.5 hrs unstructured z1-3, mtb or road. probably mtb.
F: off
S: 5-5.5 hrs z2
Su: off

Then resting. By the end, I will have put in a 10/13/11 hour three week block, which is hefty coming from a fairly lazy last 5-6 weeks.

tapering this week. same intensity shorter climbs.

https://www.strava.com/segments/622755/

6th overall, behind Colin and Adrian. Would have been in Colin's timezone if not for the 1" deep blanket of pine needles on the top 1/3 which made me unwilling to push corners.

I've been feeling snappy, but this was a surprising 26-second improvement.

GJ, nice to be going uphill so fast you need to be worried about cornering.

feeling anything but snappy - aerobically everything feels pretty easy, im just limited by my legs not being able to move fast enough. maybe the 15hrs/biking and 60mpw running w/ workouts has something to do with that...

currently i find whether or not i can perform on a given day to be completely stochastic, but at least now that my CTL is up to a decent number again (104) i haven't really had any days where I feel like a complete zombie (ie/ barely being able to turn the pedals and getting like 100 TSS for a 3hr ride). next two days should be fairly light though, probably just some openers/short efforts and hopefully that leaves me ready to perform on saturday when the hill climbing series starts. my spirit animal this season will be the remora, where i try to just latch onto @Ygduf's wheel for as long as possible.

Well, I did my last Page Mill climb this morning (the climb right near our apartment but we are moving to SF on Saturday).
Nice to have no pressure for a good training workout. Not a constant grade so I hit it the easy way- go super hard on the steeps and recover on the flats. 35' over under type climb. Power battery was dead and I think my wife misplaced my spare batteries haha. Not my best time by almost 10% but faster than I've done in the past year (many faster times in the past 2 years). If only I could be as fast in cat 2 as I was in cat 4...

I am, and I am.

Unfortunately, family events and (grad) school obligations have meant that I've missed the first three weekends of racing this year. Our home race is this weekend, and I'll be racing there.

My ftp test went FUBAR due to road construction so i had to end it 5min in when i hit a second section of peanut butter type squirrely dirt, then coasted for like 5min while I cursed a whole lot and probably upset some farm animals until i reached another hill, then climbed that hill at the same watts as I was doing for the first 5 minutes but only for 14:40 which was too early to sit up on the segment cuz the end of it was actually like 30 seconds farther down the road at speed, and also I wound up yelling at a dog that kept trying to bite my ankles half way up the climb for like 100 yards until its owner was able to catch it, then I climbed another thing with some watts but not all of the watts and ate some oreos while coasting down the other side. Basically a ride full of angry **** ups.

Not a total loss, though - you did get to eat some Oreos.
