1 hour chill on the roads today. Avoided the rain. Hoping to get my ATL WAYYYY down this week before Nationals next weekend. Tomorrow probably totally off to do homework and take care of errands. So close!

I felt like absolute **** yesterday most of the day. I had a big gear workout I was really dreading because I was super fatigued from two long weeks in a row and having trouble just doing everyday stuff around the house. Strangely, after I went out and did it, I had a ton of energy the rest of the evening.
Maybe sneak in a recovery spin at lunch?

I'm destroyed too. 4 hours today on the cross bike at mostly recovery pace, but with a murderous 30 minute super-steep dirt climb in the middle. The climb has pitches of 25%, on dirt that's really pushing the edge of being rideable at all. The bike is 1x with a low gear of 40x32 which is too much gear for this climb. Probably about 10 minutes at max torque 30-40 rpm which is the type of effort that just kills me, grinding it out and gasping and trying so hard not to let the rear wheel break loose. I could go to bed right now.

1 hour, never really above 210 watts on the trainer today. TSB finally went back to positive! Probably doing the exact same workout tomorrow, then riding chill hour on Thursday again in Grand Junction!

1 minute intervals. Einstein was right about time dilation as you go faster.

75% of the Tuesday Night Park Ride this evening. On the 3' leadout for the 5th sprint, we went super crazy hard for a minute, eased up a bit, then someone crashed near the front causing bicycle carnage and me being the first one to avoid going down. Ok it was only like 4 guys down, but 2 frames were broken including my teammates. And one other teammate was on the road for several minutes before realizing he hasn't broken anything and just in a bit of shock.
No one figured out what happened, someone though it was a fight for a wheel.
On the training side, the PE exam totally derailed any riding last week and seems to have the lingering effect of me not wanting to plan workouts a month in advance anymore. So, tonight was "hmm, idk what to do, still a bit tired from Sunday, maybe group ride?" Now im thinkin, "maybe I'll do something in the morning? Nothin in particular on schedule." It'll probably end up being however many hawk hills I have time for, at some less than painful pace.

I always look forward to rest days, and yet I always feel sooooo crappy during. Could hardly get out of bed this morning for work, let alone a ride, so I'm pushing my workout to the afternoon yet again. Anaerobic today, sweet spot tomorrow, and 1 min & 20 min tests on Sat, then racing crits on Sunday

CTL has continued to get more pathetic, it was 19 this past weekend. Have done 3 2hr rides via trainerroad (boarstone) since sunday, 97 tss each time (0.70 IF).

CTL is 78.1 today. -40 seems so incredibly low. I'll have to go back and see how close to that I've gotten...
EDIT: That didn't take long. -57 TSB the day after a training camp in Gran Canaria.

now I'm back in the low 80s, don't think I can afford to dig that low with all the road races coming up. Based on my attitude this week and a weekend trip in a week and a half, I'm guessing I'll be at a multi-year low CTL pretty soon though.

spent a month at -50 or below when i was cycling 20-25hrs a week in france for a month vacation. FTP was probably correct too, because there were plenty of 1hr+ climbs to test myself on. first 2.5w were fine and then i hit my 'peak' of -76 during and was pretty miserable for a couple days until i returned to around -60 for the last week. i remember googling 'how can you tell you are overtraining'? pretty much every day during that month because up until i cracked my legs had felt fine despite the hugely negative TSB (i've now come to realize that if you have to ask if youre overtraining you probably are)
definitely wouldnt recommend it for optimal training though. so far this year i've mostly hovered between -15 and +10 which seems better. i think the reason I was able to go so negative was mostly because i was only at around 50 CTL before the trip and i'm pretty comfortable sustaining 110-120 CTL (which is where I currently am). I couldn't go -76 TSB on my current training load.
do you guys actually find TSB useful? i wish i could use it to predict when my legs would feel good or not, but it doesnt really seem to do that.

Well I didn't ride this morning. It looked wet and I was lazy so I went to work early. Then I saw the ride from Mike's bikes Sausalito was tonight with free burgers and beer afterwards, so I did that. With part of highway 1 washed out and closed off, the main ride just goes up and down Mt tam. It was confusing because it was neutral to some random location halfway up the climb, then fast for the 25 to 30 minutes after. And Aria Kiani's neutral pace is approximately zone 4 for me lol. So suddenly everyone takes off and I just climb at high z4. It seems the take off point is a few minutes from a fairly flat stretch so next time I'll know to do a good hard pace to keep up until the flat section. Descended crazy stupid slow for a while, until a few of us leapfrogged slowly and picked it up here and there, Glace back, see who wants to play, etc. Ended up with almost sprint pace back into town at the bottom. Fun ride, kinda, but OTOH I can squeeze more in solo and if I want a longer mostly lazy day I can do butterlap and get the real training in the morning. I'll prob come back for the burger days tho. Once a month.

Question for y'all. Does anyone here have experience with the Zwift or TrainerRoad training programs? I'm thinking about just signing up for one of them and using it as my coach. My goal is basic fitness and keeping up on group rides this summer. I am not going to do any races this year.

Yes, absolutely. Maybe it's because I'm older than you, or maybe just a different type of rider, but I find the sharpness or punch that I have at the end of a race is strongly correlated with TSB. Not just that but it's also correlated with how TSS was accumulated during the few days prior. I make an effort to manage TSB the 5 days before a race to leave me slightly positive, in fact I'm doing it right now by putting a couple of different ride options for today, tomorrow, Saturday into a spreadsheet and seeing where I end up on race day Sunday.
