today I turned left and decided to do the 1mi of my old benchmark climb as hard as I could. Good news - all-time power mark for the duration.

bad news though at my last tt

Turns out I am fat af

Awful, awful, maddening, terrible workout yesterday. Was aiming for 4x15 with 5min recoveries and did not have the legs, and also overshot watt targets. Resigned to having to work back to fitness over a couple of months. Much anger.

Then, 4x20 today with 5 min recoveries, ascending difficulty, and I had a 5th one in me. Not really all that much easier than yesterday. For whatever reason the legs decided they're pretty OK today. Looks more likely that I'll be mostly normal in a couple of weeks, which is much less maddening.

ugh. been struggling heavily with motivation this year. after 8 (?) years of racing it's hard to remember why you do it and to continue waking up early mornings to train. on top of that I've been too sick all week to even look at my bike. whatever I guess there's still time to get in shape for july.

sucks, for sure. hopefully better weather will inspire

today was a hurtier one for me 5x8min at 102% (285w for me now), followed by 45mins @ 65% (135 TSS). The last one was pretty tough to finish but I got through them. Better to start at this type of intensity versus going right into 110-120% lol

^^ c'mon that's a good joke.

losers.

anyway, I should have gotten my ass kicked sooner, because 2 weeks of trying to tear my own legs off has really improved how I feel on the bike and my willingness to bury-the-****ing-needle

today my teammate asked for a leadout on the group-ride hill. He came around me at minute 3 and put ~20s into me over the next 2 minutes, but I kept my head down and didn't crack.

Monday: 5x5 @110%
Tuesday 1 hr easy
Wednesday 3x15 @95% that Stuff is painful
Today 1 hr recovery
Tomorrow 5x5 @110% or 1 hr tempo

what % ftp are you doing the 4x20? what does ascending difficulty mean? Thanks
I just did my first 3x15 90% ftp and felt like crap although I had to tell my mind it's only 3 five minutes workout

Just tempo. This time I started at 78% and ended at 82%. Generally on the trainer I am "rev limited" to 85% for repeats.

Ascending difficulty means I increase the watts each rep. I tend to do the same for every workout I do, including z2. Keeps me honest.

Finished up the long drive into Phoenix and took the tt bike out on the course to preride. Going to be a fast one tomorrow if the winds hold like they were today. Wheels felt great and think I'm set up right for tomorrow. Just a bit of suffering to start off road season 18!
@Doge , saw a bunch of the Lux kids and mechanics out there. The mechanics parked in front of me were nice people!

Oh, man, not too far off of the 5 min/500w level. Another 5% or so. That's awesome.

Justin Rossi once did 5 min/500w and posted about achieving it. I'd kind of given up hope of ever getting there, but my legs have been coming around and if I continue to focus on stretching my vo2 maybe I can do it.

Now a post from a mere mortal......lol...

I was curious how the plan has been coming along so snuck in a 20min test. I took a big dump this morning and then weighed in and thought it would be a good day to try to get the power number too.

Managed 281w.
I've wanted to get to a 4.0w/kg on 20min and busted it to get there. So I'm happy.

The legs wanted more, but wasn't really getting enough O2 through to do so. I mean, the legs really felt great during the effort. I just couldn't suck enough air in and get it out quick enough to go for more.

I've been riding for less than 2 years now. I mean, my Strava feed only goes back to July 2016 and I wasn't doing anything before that.

Very nice @burnthesheep. Racing should be fun for you!

VoS TT this morning. Warming up on the road bike on rollers and my power meter died. Typical race weekend.. Got it fixed this afternoon (2054 batteries can be tough to find, got lucky this time..) then got in an hour real easy spin to shake the legs out after the TT. Road Race tomorrow.

Haven't really been on the bike much the past few weeks; been working on the house. I wake up, work, then work on the house. 6am to 10pm every day. Painted 3 rooms, put in moulding, flooring, moved a ton of stuff. Lost 3 lbs. Still a lot of work to do but after my Mother in Laws funeral I'm getting back to training and fixing things up here and there.

I'm going to have to full reset; I was so laser focused on racing in January not being able to was just deflating.

over-unders today, 5x9 mins w/ 1min 95% and 2min @ 105%, the last 3 min were tough to keep the legs turning.

5x20 trainer, ascending difficulty, 5min rests, 82-86%. Last one was not pleasant! Legs are coming surprisingly quickly so I think I'm going to focus more on increasing volume for now.

419w for 17:15ish. Take a minute off that time and I'd be at the right weight.
