I love that you are taking my advice and I loath that you will be a better climber than I am in short order.

My MIL is fighting a C. difficile infection. Once she's off antibiotics she's going to need a FMT. It's a drag.

that sounds like no fun. I did see a thing about FMT that was done through taking frozen capsules (pills) with slow-dissolving properties so they last long enough to make it to the correct part of the bowel, but that idea makes me gag.

Nada today. Roads were still wet/dirty and I cleaned my bike last night after riding in the rain yesterday. I had a big weekend, 80 miles Saturday and a century on Sunday. Off season pace but made me surprisingly tired this week.

I realize that the Prilosec is mainly just treating my symptoms (sour, upset stomach and nausea) and not necessarily the underlying cause, so it may be a couple months or more before I'm really in the clear with this, but at least I can ride. After speaking with the doc yesterday, we both decided that it was stupid that the first doc. I saw didn't request a stool antigen test for H. Pylori - Omeprazole causes false negatives, of course.

Anyway, long story short: I'm happy to be riding, felt great this morning. Looking forward to kicking down some more MTB tomorrow, and then 5+ hrs on the road on Sat!!!
Unlike antacids, things like omeprazole or even ranitidine do more than mask symptoms. They actually heal ulcers and help eradicate h pylori.

Vitamin C also helps. One study they used vitamin C alone without any antibiotics and got 30% eradication rate! It is also a good idea to take after triple therapy to prevent reinfection.

Effects of high dose vitamin C treatment on Helicobacter pylori infection and total vitamin C concentration in gastric juice. - PubMed - NCBI
Vitamin-C as anti-Helicobacter pylori agent: More prophylactic than curative- Critical review. - PubMed - NCBI

Very happy that you are feeling better.

Normally it goes in the other end. IMO the pills are just pharma companies wanting to make money. Even if they do manufacture/standardize it I would prefer it as a suppository...

Thanks @Enthalpic, was looking forward to your reply.

Very interesting to know about Vit C. - I'll make sure to get at least ~500 or so mg's/day for the next couple month(s) while I figure this out.

all my high-power marks come in Oct/Nov. Means you're stronger next year than last.

Works for me. Since the last race of the season (Henleyville), I've somehow set new power PRs for everything from 5s through 10min.

Still pretty new to the power game but if 1 hour at ftp= 100 TSS doesn't that mean you rode higher than your ftp for an hour and a half, which is like doubly impossible?

Eh ... yes and no. My understanding is that TSS is based on NP and if you attack the crap out of a few 60s hills (I mean 100% all out) you can shove 60 min NP above 60 min AP (FTP) leading to 100 TSS in under an hour (had 130 in 63 minutes last week). Also, it could mean my FTP needs retesting.

edit: TSS = ((NP/FTP)^2)*100*hours ridden; so, if you NP the heck out of a ride, TSS can exceed 100 per hour.

Due to earlier darkness, Autumn through spring I usually ride once per week to my wife's office and her and I ride over to Mount San Bruno for some type of interval work. The interesting terrain feature of this ride is that it is flat to and from her office. The route goes along the bay and next to SFO airport. Not exactly great cycling (traffic and lights) per se but the only local flat road I have. The rest is rolling and climbing and descending.

2.5 hours - I rode tempo on the flats and did VO2 work on San Bruno plus a couple of circuits around the old Brisbane Circuit Race route.
