I'm disappointed when the group rides aren't chirpy. Chirpy is fun!

I think all our local rides can get chirpy at times. A couple of them are more prone to chirpyness than others. You get some 25-60 guys with varying personalities that have had good or bad days and things happen. Earlier this year on one of the more mild rides, we had a guy shove another down a ditch on a climb. Kind of a wtf incident, but it resolved itself and we moved on.

FTP test this morning, scored 5w higher than my goal, cool beans.

Things aren't as dismal as I thought, and it's only up from here! Base training starts now.

Here's to a safe and injury-free run into the 2016 season for myself and my fellow 33'ers .

I do group rides because they're fun and it's fun to play with other people that also like bikes. Aggro rides just piss me off and make me not want to come back. I'll second what @globecanvas said, the groups around here are generally free of those types of shenanigans.

6 x 10 minutes @ 92.5% FTP (2 min rest between each) today. Could have done 1-2 more if pressed. Need to retest sometime in the near future.

The squats are getting easier, too. Glad because damn was I sore for the first week.

If you want mature group rides, don't come to California.

After awhile you learn who the chronic chirpers are and learn to tune them out.

he yelled first, all I did was not get pushed over the centerline, ride my bike and tell him "nice ride" - how do I live with myself.

It wasn't aggro, it was bike games. Killing and countering a break is pretty usual on our rides out here. The stanford kids even send moves up the road and then ride as a team blocking/covering chases.

There is occasional aggro behavior on our rides (guy in ditch example), but that is usually the result of a few select individuals. Others are vocally assertive toward others about minor crap (not pulling through, guttering, attacking, not covering, etc) in an effort to get others to do heir work. All seems fine.

I think the "aggro" referred to the "chirpy," not the racey ride tactics.

if you're going to talk about me you have to @tag me.

But holy ****, yes. I have no problem talking to people in person, on bike rides, and at work too. I mean, am I supposed to just let someone push me over the double yellow? It's a group/race ride. He's trying to take advantage (from behind my bars, so I have the advantage) and I am not ceding it.

Anyway, I approached him after the ride and I let him lecture me for like 90 seconds and I feel like we're all good. It was a fun contest, nothing more.

Bike games is fun, I just mean the whole yelling at each other part. Quickest way to make a group ride not fun, for me anyway.

I have been on a huge number of team rides over the years. Most of them had what we called "shenanigans": attacks with an ulterior motive. The classic one is to attack just before a turn where there is a great place to hide and then ride up behind the rest. I can tell you about many more creative ones that actually mimic road racing, but that would take a long time.

I have lots of stories and for the most part they actually helped guys learn how to race.

But back on topic on more than a few occasions I have gotten quite "chirpy" with riders that do stupid and unsafe stuff on team rides. I tell them off and explain why it was a stupid move. In my experience it ends up as a positive thing.

And I got told off one time for a really stupid move I made and I should have known better. On one ride I didn't look behind before swinging out to attack and a team mate was already attacking from further back. I was so apologetic. I knew better. I felt like an idiot.

don't do California group rides if you aren't ready to yell randomly.

3 1m all out; about 50 watts short of what I wanted. Some v02 intervals and the TNW's. Overall it was a pretty solid day, no PR's but after 60 miles I was still fresh and putting up good numbers....still a solid day for me is like a meh day for anyone else in the 33. Gotta put in more work...epic work....Hollywood montage work....

Oh yeah, I got to yell at someone too. Dude slammed on the brakes on a descent for no real reason.

Was planning on doing lots of base before the snow starts flying and rollers season starts again, but now I think I might give 'cross a try. Seems like fun.
