Hit my FTP test target this morning and passed it by a few watts, with some effort to spare. Of course hindsight is 20/20 on that one with this kind of stuff. Still, I'm liking where this is going.

Snuck out at lunch to do a FTP-lifting set. Hit my targets, which is a pretty sweet feeling.
Cat 2
Sunday and monday off the bike due to skiing + little sleep and monday being my typical rest day. Today was 75 minutes with about an hour at sweetspot. Pushed my FTP up after the zwift race last week so it was a bit tough to hold target power but I made it through with only a few short back pedals.
Had originally planned to come out of base phase around this week, but I'm going to put it off until after the new year. Going home for xmas means I won't be able to do the slightly higher intensity stuff that normally accompanies a build. Going to keep it in the sweetspot + maybe a zwift race or two until we get closer to first races of the year.

Some Sweet Spot Intervals and Split Squats. Trying to be conservative with the squats, ultimately its more about getting the kinetic chain working properly than building muscle.
Its getting cold out there; I may have to revisit using the trainer. Tried it last month and being indoors with my lungs the way they were didn't work out too well.

I do the hammerfest every Tues/Thurs. Today I skipped the hammerfest and did weights and 2 hours of interval work on the trainer. Maybe I'm maturing.

Did a midweek training ride after work for the first time in a couple months. Only 70 minutes steady Z2/3 cuz I was still a bit sore. Apparently 2 "normal" weekend rides can cause a 43 point drop in TSB when de-trained

2hrs, 116 tss, 3x20min intervals at 88% with each set broken down into 5min intervals with 30sec recovery, I was pretty spent by the end (granted I didn't really have much more than coffee today prior to doing this and I was on a work call that interrupted my groove)

My ride this morning sucked. 3 hrs/55 mi of zone 2 up and down the coast, out at 5:45 AM.
Stiff, uncooperative legs and cold, cold microclimates surrounding rivers and creeks, which was a lot of the early portion. This Santa Ana weather pisses me off. Big temperature differentials, prevailing winds in the wrong direction making things slow, and dry air that chaps my lips and is bad for the lungs.
I thought about turning back early and didn't, probably should have.

Well no, 3 hours in zone 2 will never be 200 TSS!
I am a fan of the 3 hour/200 steady tempo though. When I dont feel like z2 is enough stress for the time I'm putting in. Last winter I did several of those and they do kick my ass a bit more than z2 but also they are totally manageable if the weekend only allows for 6 hours or so over 2 days.
That said, I am thinking of doing an entire block of below sweet spot riding. I always wanna push up that threshold but for the first time I am at a serious CTL low. I now understand why people do z2 base. Cuz they actually take time off and need to build up the training stress!

Cat 2
~2.5 hours on zwift with 2 races. First one in the C catgeory to warmup. Second one was a series that the Wasington state association is running. Jumped in to the B's. Took the field sprint for 3rd. unfortunately I had a power drop when I was bridging to the break that no one was bringing back. Oh well, probably wouldn't have made it anyways.
Set a 1 hour power best for the year and a new ftp in the last 20 minutes of the race. Fun, fun.

Day off the bike. Came into the office at 7 to prepare for a meeting at 1:30. One of those kind of days.

Same here actually, except I didn't need to prepare quite all day for mine - Lab Tech interviews here at 7:30 and 1:30.

It was too windy today, so I did a TR Workout. Close to the same as I was going to do outside (vo2 Intervals) but after the 3rd my hamstring started to tighten up so I called it.
My guess is its more to do with heat and hydration than fitness, seeing how it was 75 in the house and I train when its 45-55. Counting my noon and brunch rides about 132 tss for the day.

90-ish minutes of no structure commute/detour this morning. Just too cold and foggy to do a proper set of intervals. 84ctl, 2tsb
Cat 2
Thursday night I went to see the early showing of Star Wars so I only had about 45 minutes to ride on the trainer. Did a tempo-ish workout on the tt bike on the trainer. Friday I worked about half a day, went skiing in the afternoon and did an easy ride on the trainer after skiing.
My training is looking very different this year, thank last but I'm okay with it. I'm enjoying myself a lot more right now. Just hoping that I can do a mini-training camp while I'm back in SEA for Christmas. I may be limited on my equipment choice, but small gears never hurt anybody in December, right?
