just finished first race. thanks to all who helped!
A few weeks ago I posted a thread about "first criterium questions". Well my first race has come and gone and I wanted to thank everyone who weighed in with tips. Turned out they were a lot of help.
I stayed in the top 10 the whole race, and with about 10 minutes left, a 5 man break gapped up about 10 seconds. One of my guys was in the break, so me and another 2 guys from my team just did our best to keep the pack from chasing it down. I stayed in the front 5 of the chasing pack until the end, which was an uphill field sprint. Apparently I need to work on my sprints, because I dropped 5 or so places, to finish 15th of 30. I'm not too disappointed in that at all, since it was a Cat 4/5 race. I think only 1 or 2 Cat 5s finished ahead of me.
I can't remember exactly who it was that told me to start putting in lots of intervals in the weeks leading up to the crit, but thanks a bunch. I was cursing your name while doing them , but it sure paid off come race day.
I can't wait for my next race, this one was a blast!
