Wait, when did Lemond get caught doping? Or are you talking about Horner?

Maybe I should have to change not-got-caught-doping to sanctioned-for-doping.

Anyway Phil now has his KOM record on his Strava ride and Horner has it back. Is that bit-doping? I did learn a Strava trick.
Before a ride, flag the KOM, then get 2nd. When KOM is returned to owner, your segment still shows you got a KOM.

Junior txted me last nigh "Get Mackenzie ready". Now Chris has it back - war never started.

There is a Strava club "YOLO DYRT SLAYERS OF 'MERICA" https://www.strava.com/clubs/48793 who's leader and several members live/have lived near and do an annual group "Rad Ride" taking the road bikes up the dirt part. I think an all-call would have taken that KOM back pretty quickly. Unfortunately we won't get to see that.

You guys would probably laugh if I posted the "climbs" around here.

It would be awesome if some pro came here just to get them.

Just heard someone compare Strava KOMs to hitting golf balls on the driving range. Seems like a pretty good analogy.

Because of Internet search engines.
This was a big thing on soccer forums where we were mostly adults discussing minors.

The fix is to not make the forum public readable, but this one is. So when I post the pot is calling the kettle black - just easier not to have names.

I think this is a reason you get a little more lively discussion then say - Facebook, or err - how I post on Facebook.

Weird. Most of those riders are from LA or Ventura County. Don't see anyone from Yolo County.

(i agree with the above--no idea who people are really talking about.)

i like the gaimon thing in theory and want to cheer it on, but then he says stuff like "i won't go after a Leipheimer or Tommy D segment because, well, 'it's complicated'."

meaning he is friends with them.

not entirely sure how i fell about that.

good on ya for that.

people are often quick to post OTHER peoples' names while using a username. now, among those of us regulars it can be easy enough to figure out who is who, but there's some level of either work or time/participation here required to do that.

The current batch of U20s could take every and any KOM in the USA if they wanted to. They don't. They race.

I am very encouraged that KOM hunting seems to end about age 16.
Phil is just not that good, and not that grown up.

not really sure of your point here.

good enough to win san dimas. good enough to make it to the world tour level, even if he washed out.

honestly, by all objective standards that's at least pretty good. to say otherwise implies some agenda.

are there better? sure! but kids with promise don't always pan out for a whole variety of reasons.

As a USA pro - he is very good. Kind of like a Heisman winning QB vs a NFL pro.

He was in the article citing a climb only the top 60 in the world can do (another KOM, not Palomar). Then said Horner, a GT winner, got away stuff in speaking of the Palomar KOM - that someone flagged Horners KOM the day he road it.
So he established two KOMs that were so hard, they could only be done by dopers or a world top 60 climber. Then he, as world rank outside the top 1000 says is out to beat them.

So in the "real pro" world - he is not good enough to be taking KOMs from doped riders under the same circumstances (pre ride, weather etc.).

Being a pro - as in paying the bills pro. Not needing to digital dope. That kind of stuff.

Phil just added me on Strava the other day so he's cool in my book!

As far as his talent level goes; he's still probably one of the top 100 climbers in the world. People fail to realize what makes the Froomes and Contadors so much better than everyone else is they have a whole team at their disposal. The difference between a 5.9 w/kg rider to a 6.2 one is the 5.9 guy is passing up bottles. Phil was also pretty honest in his articles about regressing when younger guys like Mike Woods were just faster.

Have you lost your mind? Do you know how few guys have made it to really factor on the world stage from America? Now cull out all the ones who were only in the upper echelon because they doped more better. Of all those very few guys really make it to pay the bills for a lifetime.

On a large enough scale someone is always better than the next guy. Even the guy who is the best, the very best, loses way more than he wins. Merckx's outlier year was '71 and he won 45% of his races. Most years weren't close to that.

As I posted he is a very good USA pro. Curious if you read the interview. He is not going after America pro KOMs He is a kinda anti-doping vigilantist and that he scoped out Hrner's training ride as a target and made sure he mentioned Hrner got away with stuff, is at least as bad as what I'm doing in a semi private forum.

He brought the world stage into it by who he accused and who he said was needed (top 60 climbers in the world) to beat certain KOMs. I am and was putting him in world class context as that is where he put himself.
Phillip Gaimon . Hrner:https://www.procyclingstats.com/rider.php?id=140769

But, yea, I don't see him as good enough to get those KOMs (or maybe they are not world top 60 tough). I thought the way he got the Palomar KOM stamp on his page was clever (although digital doping if he flagged Chris as it seems) for being 4:25 off the real KOM.

There are very few things in my life that bother me, and really things only errk me if they directly impact my family or myself. With that being said, the fact that people can actually get upset, offended, emotional, etc. about what someone else does on Strava boggles my mind. Dopers, ex-dopers, non-dopers, pros, non-pros, wanna-be pros, wind assisted, drafted assisted, digital doping assisted, who ******** cares?

I am glad this country has their priorities in line. If Strava means anything to you (other than finding new routes or being a free backup server for your ride data) then I suggest you get away from sanctioned racing and join SoulCycle or CrossFit. You know, where rankings, stats, and social media bs actually mean something.
